Construction DX: Estimate-to-Schedule Integration Solution

In traditional construction operations, the "estimates" created during the sales phase and the "construction schedules" created during the project management phase were typically prepared and managed separately. This led to issues such as the need for redundant data entry when transferring estimate details into schedules, as well as human errors including input mistakes and missing work items.

Project Overview

In this project, we are developing a system that uses natural language processing to analyze estimate data and automatically generate draft construction schedules (such as Gantt charts) by assigning construction sequences and work hours based on the line items in the estimate.

Technical Approach

  1. Structured Analysis of Estimates — Reading estimates in various formats such as PDF and Excel, and automatically extracting work items, quantities, unit prices, and work categories
  2. Work Sequence Inference — Automatically determining the order of operations based on standard construction workflow rules (e.g., foundation, structural frame, finishing)
  3. Automatic Schedule Generation — Creating a draft Gantt chart-style construction schedule from the extracted items and inferred sequences
  4. Human Review and Adjustment — Construction managers review and refine the generated schedule to finalize it

Value This Solution Aims to Deliver

  • Significant reduction in work hours — Simply importing an estimate produces a baseline schedule, shortening the administrative workload for construction managers.
  • Improved accuracy — By linking estimate and schedule data, the system prevents missing work items and ensures consistent management.
  • Faster construction preparation — After estimate approval, construction preparation (resource allocation, etc.) can begin immediately.

Addressing Challenges in the Construction Industry

The construction industry is facing the 2024 problem (overtime work regulations), making operational efficiency an urgent priority. Small and mid-sized construction companies in particular have been slow to adopt IT tools, continuing to rely on the experience and intuition of veteran employees.

We are committed to addressing these real-world challenges on the ground, contributing to work-style reform in the construction industry by providing DX solutions that are easy to use and fit naturally into the workplace.
